  4. Transmit and Receive are controlled by the buttons in the
  5. lower left control panel resembling:

  19. 1. Pick the desired SSTV mode.
  20.  
  21. 2. Announce verbally that you are about to send a picture.
  22.  
  23. 3. Click on the Xmit button or press the "X" key.
  24.  
  25. 4. The transmitter will be turned on automatically.
  26.    A progress bar will grow along the left edge of the
  27.    tuning indicator.  The transmitter will be turned
  28.    off automatically when it is complete. 
  29.    
  30. 5. Transmission can be stopped early by holding down
  31.    the left mouse button or pressing a key on the 
  32.    keyboard.  The space bar is a good choice.

  35. Alignment Tone
  36. --------------

  38. This sends an "alignment tone" similar to the AVT Master.
  39. This is mostly 1500 Hz (black) with some 1200 Hz (sync)
  40. pulses thrown in.

  42. If you want 1200, 1500, and 2300 Hz tones, just send a
  43. checkerboard pattern in 8 second black and white.

  46. Standby

  49. Holding down a mouse button or pressing a key will terminate
  50. Transmit or Receive and return to Standby mode.

  53. Receive

  56. Start receiving by clicking on the "Recv" button or pressing
  57. the Enter key.  DO NOT wait until you hear the SSTV signal.
  58. You will miss the beginning of the picture.  Start receive
  59. mode while people are still talking.

  61. If the SSTV interface is connected to a receiver, you should
  62. see little dancing lines on the right side of the Tuning
  63. Indicator.   The Tuning Indicator is described in more detail
  64. in its own help file.

  66. Tips:
  67.  
  68. 1. You might want to first select a popular SSTV mode because
  69.    VIS decoding isn't reliable under poor conditions.
  70.  
  71. 2. For best results, make sure the "Free Run" mode is selected
  72.    on the Setup menu.
  73.  
  74. 3. The "Sync Squelch" option on the Setup menu is similar to
  75.    the squelch control on an FM receiver.  When listening to
  76.    weak signals, turn this off.  Turn it on if you only want
  77.    the system to respond to fairly good signals.
  78.  
  79. 4. Often a steady carrier will cause the system to switch to
  80.    Robot 12 second color mode.  This is because the VIS code for
  81.    that mode is all zeros.  12 second color is about as rare
  82.    as hen's teeth so you might want to disable detection of this
  83.    one VIS code by using the NO_12C_VIS command in the PKTV.CFG 
  84.    file.  This option does not prevent reception of this mode,
  85.    only automatically switching to it.
